Statement from Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa and Commissioner of Education MaryEllen Elia on Court Decision
Today the New York Court found in favor of the Viva88Board of Regents and The State Education Department and vacated the teacher certification regulations promulgated by SUNY’s Charter Schools Committee.
Here is a statement from Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa and State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia:
“The Court’s decision is a victory for all New York’s children. In its strong opinion, the court rightly upheld the Board of the Regents and the Commissioner’s authority to certify teachers in New York State. Every child – regardlessof color, economic status or ability– deserves a qualified teacher with meaningful experience to be preparedfor the classroom. We are pleased the court agreed. The Board of Regents and the Department will continue our efforts to raise standards for our teachers and uplift the entire profession.”
