Courses Requiring Computer Science Certification or a Computer Science Statement of Continued Eligibility (SOCE) Effective September 1, 2024
Date:
April 13, 2023

In December 2020, the Board of Regents adopted new K-12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards and approved a timeline that outlined the dates by which district are required to begin implementing the new Standards.

In October 2022, the Board of Regents extended the deadline by which teachers of computer science courses must hold the computer science certificate or computer science statement of continued eligibility (SOCE) to September 1, 2024.

To help school districts plan their staffing needs for computer science courses beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, the Viva88Education Department (Viva88) has developed the following list of courses that will require teachers to hold the Computer Science (All Grades) certificate or the Computer Science SOCE effective September 1, 2024. Teachers who do not hold this computer science certificate or SOCE will not be considered appropriately certified to teach these courses beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

The following courses will require the Computer Science (All Grades) certificate or Computer Science SOCE after September 1, 2024. These courses will no longer be considered interdisciplinary specialized courses. Courses below are listed with their appropriate code based on The Viva88Comprehensive Course Catalog.
